Work Safely at Heights (WAH) is the training accreditation suitable for people who are required to work heights.

WorkSafe Connect has been delivering workplace health and safety related working at heights programs for over 15 years and is one of Queensland’s leading suppliers of the working at heights skill set.

This 1-day (8 hour) course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely work at heights. The course provides valuable knowledge regarding the safety practices applied when working at heights and the program is made up of the following nationally accredited unit of competency:

Course Details

Our working at heights training course will run the participants through areas including:

  • Legislation
  • Australian Standards
  • Risk assessment
  • Methods of moving tools and equipment
  • Anchor systems, selecting compliant anchorage
  • Fall restraint systems, selection and inspection of equipment and correct use
  • Work positioning systems, selection of equipment and correct use
  • Fall arrest systems including energy absorbing lanyards
  • Ladder securing techniques Accessing and egress from a elevated work area

The skills and knowledge that you obtain during the Work Safely at Heights Training is suitable for working at heights across a wide range of industries including the Resources, Quarrying, Drilling, Agriculture, Councils/Government, Defence, Manufacturing, Heavy Industry and Construction.

Training will be conducted by an experienced trainer assessors who has industry currency, strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.

Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.

WorkSafe Connect offers this course in the following formats:

  • Face to Face – Public Courses (Brisbane and Townsville)
  • Face to Face – Onsite (at your site / workplace)

WorkSafe Connect recognises that whilst there is a standard set of learning outcomes for this course, the context and environment in which the learning is applied is varied.

We will customise the course to suit your unique workplace requirements. Training covers risk assessment, selection and correct use of equipment anchor systems, fall restraint, work positioning and fall arrest systems.

To complete the course, students must successfully complete all assessments which are aligned with the national unit of competency.

All assessments are completed during the course – no assessment activities need to be completed prior to or post the training course.

While there is no legislated requirement associated with the refreshing of this competency, industry best practice is to refresh this competency once every 2-3 years. WorkSafe Connect offers a 4-hour refresher course.

Whether you work at height as part of your job or supervise those who do, Working at Height Training ensures that you have valuable knowledge regarding the safety practices of working at heights.

Work at heights training is focused on fall prevention and fall arrest. It is designed to equip workers with the knowledge and skills to safely work in any height situation, primarily being aimed at general construction, maintenance, mining, large factories or other work situations where work is conducted where there is a risk of a fall.

Key areas covered as part of our course include:

  • Identify work requirements
  • Identify work procedures and instructions

This is a nationally recognised unit of competency and therefore your accreditation does not technically expire.

While there is no legislated requirement set out for the refreshing of this competency, industry best practice suggests that this competency should be refreshed once every 2-3 years.

We consistently work with clients who require refreshing of this competency at least every 2 years.

WorkSafe Connect offers a 4-hour refresher course for participants who have previously had training and have currency in relation to working safely at heights.
