Refresher - Working Safely at Heights Training
Working Safely at Heights is the training accreditation suitable for people who are required to undertake work at heights.
WorkSafe Connect has been delivering workplace health and safety related working at heights programs for over 15 years and is one of Queensland’s leading suppliers of the working at heights skill set.
This 4-hour refresher course has been designed to update competent and experienced students with the latest skills and knowledge required to work at heights. The course takes students through the process that will provide valuable knowledge regarding safety practices when working at heights.
The program is made up of the following nationally accredited unit of competency:
- RIIWHS204E - Work Safely at Heights
Please note that this course does have enrty requirements to ensure that this course is appropriate based on your previous training and expereince. Please refer to the Course Entry Requirments section below.
Who Should Attend
This course is for anyone required to work at height. It is particularly relevant to those in construction, resources, maintenance, infrastructure, government, utilities, warehousing, agriculture, and other industrial environments.
It is suitable for workers, contractors, and supervisors who use ladders, scaffolds, platforms, or fall protection systems, as well as those responsible for managing teams and ensuring compliance with safety standards.
Training supports compliance with the Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011 (Qld), which requires fall risks to be managed through proper training, control measures, and emergency planning.
Please note: to enrol in refresher training, WorkSafe Connect requires evidence that participants have previously completed working at heights accreditation completed in the last three (3) years.
Course Description
Our working at heights training course will run the participants through areas including:
- Applicable legislation
- Associated Australian Standards
- Risk assessment and application of the hierarchy of control measures
- Types, inspection and selection of safety equipment
- Rescue plans
- Methods of moving tools and equipment
- Anchor systems and understanding compliance
- Fall restraint systems, selection and inspection of equipment and correct use
- Work positioning systems, selection of equipment and correct use
- Fall arrest systems including energy absorbing lanyards
- Accessing the height
The skills and knowledge that you obtain during the Work Safely at Heights Training is suitable for working at heights across a wide range of industries including the Resources, Quarrying, Drilling, Agriculture, Councils/Government, Defence, Manufacturing, Heavy Industry and Construction industries.
Course Delivery Options
Training will be conducted by experienced trainer assessors who have industry currency, strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.
Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.
WorkSafe Connect offers this course in the following formats:
- Face to Face – Public Courses (Brisbane and Townsville)
- Face to Face – Onsite (at your site / workplace)
WorkSafe Connect recognises that whilst there is a standard set of learning outcomes for this course, the context and environment in which the learning is applied is varied.

Accreditation
To complete the course, students must successfully complete all assessments which are aligned with the national unit of competency.
All assessments are completed during the course – no assessment activities need to be completed prior to or post the training course.
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency:
- RIIWHS204E - Work Safely at Heights
While there is no legislated requirement associated with the refreshing of this competency, industry suggests that best practice is to refresh this competency once every 2-3 years.

Certificate delivery:
- Courses at our facilities: Certificates are issued on the day, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers (if applicable) the following business day.
- Courses at client sites: Certificates are issued within 7 business days, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers.
Course Entry Requirements
To be eligible for this refresher course, please provide one of the following items to evidence your previous working at heights accreditation completed in the last three (3) years:
- Statement of Attainment
- USI transcript
- Wallet card
- Employer transcript identifying accredited training
Please email your evidence to info@worksafeconnect.com as soon as possible and at least 2 BUSINESS DAYS prior to the course commencement. Attendance to the course may be rejected if the evidence is not received on time.
