Licence to Operate an Advanced Boiler is the training accreditation and licence required to operate an advanced boiler.

WorkSafe Connect has been delivering leading high risk licenced focused programs for over 15 years and is one of Queensland’s leading suppliers of onsite high risk work licences. We have specifically designed this course to be delivered onsite and we work with our clients to align with their operations, procedures and equipment to create the most effective and efficient training experience.

Our 6-day course is designed to ensure that participants have the skills and knowledge required to operate an advanced boiler, including a standard boiler.

The program is made up of the following nationally accredited unit of competency:

  • MSMBLIC002 – Licence to operate an advanced boiler

Course Details

WorkSafe Connect’s Advanced Boiler course includes boiler start up, handover, monitoring, shut down and storage. Also covered are preparation for inspection procedures as specified in manufacturer recommendations, identification of maintenance requirements and relevant risk control measures.

The advanced boilers covered by this course are standard boilers and advanced boilers, including boilers defined in AS 2593:2004 Safety management and supervision systems and AS 3873:2001 Pressure equipment – Operation and maintenance and typically have a modulating combustion air supply and heat source.

During the Advanced Boiler course students will cover the following topics:

  • Relevant legislation
  • OHS and PPE requirements
  • Boiler Principles and Construction
  • Boiler Fittings and Mounting
  • Combustion Principles
  • Operational Cycles
  • Emergency situations
  • Boiler ancillaries (BI & BA only)
  • Boiler Storage
  • Boiler maintenance and Feed water Monitoring
  • Fault finding scenarios
  • Records

Training will be conducted by one of our experienced high risk trainer assessors who have industry currency, strong knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and industry standards.

Practical and theoretical activities drive the training experience to ensure that the training is engaging, interesting and relevant.

In order to complete the course, participants must successfully complete the assessments during the course.

To be eligible to apply for the High-Risk Licence, students will need to complete a Theory Assessment and a Practical Assessment.

Students must also provide three items of original identity evidence. A copy of each must be retained by WorkSafe Connect, excepting a financial institution debit/credit card (where a record is kept that the original was sighted but card numbers are not retained on file).

Most students bring their drivers licence, Medicare card and a credit / debit card with them on the day which satisfies the identity requirements.

To complete the course, students must successfully complete all assessments which are aligned with the national unit of competency.

All assessments are completed during the course – no assessment activities need to be completed prior to or post the training course.

Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for the following unit of competency:

  • MSMBLIC002 – License to operate an advanced boiler

Students will also be provided with an electronic 'Candidate Assessment Summary' (CAS) to apply for the High-Risk Licence through Work Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ).

Please note there is an additional fee charged by WHSQ to apply for the licence.
