About the Course

This course provides Contractor Workers with the skills and knowledge required to apply for Authorised Person status under the Energex or Ergon Energy Network. It is designed in accordance with Section 3.4 of the Code of Practice for Working Near Overhead and Underground Electric Lines.
Participants will learn how to identify relevant exclusion zones, manage hazards, and work safely on or near electrical network infrastructure. Commonly referred to as the Spotter Course (Energex Spotter / Ergon Spotter), this training does not provide a pathway into switching and access training.
Note: Only Electrical Mechanics are eligible to be recognised as an Authorised Person (Electrical).

Note: M428 Underground Awareness is not equivalent to this course.

Course Description
Our 1656 Introduction to Electrical Network Infrastructure for Authorised Persons course is designed for Contractor Workers seeking Authorised Person status with Energex or Ergon Energy Network, as outlined in Section 3.4 of the Code of Practice for Working Near Overhead and Underground Electric Lines.
Participants will gain an understanding of how to identify exclusion zones, manage hazards, and work safely near overhead and underground electrical infrastructure.

Accreditation
All assessments are completed during the training session. There are no pre-course or post-course assessment requirements.
Upon successful completion of the course, participants receive a Certificate of Achievement for non-accredited training, which supports applications to become an Authorised Person through the Energex or Ergon Energy Network.
While refresher training is not formally mandated, the Electricity Entity may require refresher training every five years.
Certificate delivery:
- Courses at our facilities: Certificates are issued on the day, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers (if applicable) the following business day.
- Courses at client sites: Certificates are issued within 7 business days, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers.
