Mail Bomb Recognition Training - WorkSafe Secure
Mail Bomb Recognition is the training accreditation suitable for people who are required to recognise suspect mail items.
Our 3-hour course provides a mechanism to recognize whether a mail item is suspected to be an improvised explosive device, or not. Mail Bomb Recognition training course focuses on key areas including:
- Procedures - Have dedicated procedures in place to manage suspected mail bomb incidents
- Training - Undertake training to identify the mail bomb recognition points
- Assistance - Have on hand and use the recognition checklist
- Safety - Follow response safety precautions appropriate to the situation and seek assistance
Who Should Attend
This course is for individuals who may be exposed to, or responsible for handling, screening, or responding to mail and parcel deliveries. It is particularly relevant to mailroom and reception staff, corporate and government administrators, security officers, facility managers, council employees handling incoming mail, and personnel in critical infrastructure, logistics, or transport roles.
Course Description
WorkSafe Connect offers Federal Bureau of Investigation guidelines for assessment of recognition points and subsequent Australian Federal Police courses of action in response to mail bombs.
By the end of the Mail Bomb Recognition course, participants will have a greater knowledge and understanding of the key mail bomb recognition procedures and best practices, including knowledge relating to:
- Postal devices
- Categories
- Functioning principles
- Design options
- FBI recognition points
- AFP safety precautions
- Recognition checklist
- Suspect hazardous substance exposure
- Golden rule

Accreditation
To complete the course, students must successfully complete assessments which are all completed during the course – no assessment activities need to be completed prior to or post the training course.
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, students will receive a Statement of Completion.

Certificate delivery:
- Courses at our facilities: Certificates are issued on the day, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers (if applicable) the following business day.
