Fire Combo Training - Extinguisher, Warden & Chief
WorkSafe Connect’s Fire Combo Training is a flexible, all-in-one 1-day course that combines Fire Extinguisher, Fire Warden, and Chief Warden training into a single, streamlined program.
Designed to support both small and large teams, this course equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills to respond to workplace fire emergencies, operate firefighting equipment, and take leadership roles during an evacuation.
Training includes:
- Fire Extinguisher Training – Safe use of fire extinguishers, hose reels, and fire blankets
- Fire Warden Training – Emergency procedures, evacuation protocols, and warden responsibilities
- Chief Warden Training – Leading emergency responses, coordinating wardens, and liaising with emergency services
Public courses follow a structured schedule: Fire Warden and Chief Warden training in the morning, followed by Fire Extinguisher training in the afternoon.
Client-only courses offer full flexibility, allowing you to customise delivery. For example, your session may begin with Fire Extinguisher training for 14 participants, with 5 continuing for Warden training and 2 completing Chief Warden.

Course Details
This combined course provides participants with the knowledge and hands-on experience to confidently respond to workplace fire emergencies and take on key roles within their organisation’s emergency response structure.
Topics covered include:
- Roles and responsibilities of Fire Wardens and Chief/Deputy Chief Wardens within the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO)
- Pre-emergency planning, communication, and coordination
- Use of first attack firefighting equipment, including fire extinguishers, hose reels, and fire blankets
- Workplace evacuation procedures and emergency communication protocols
Practical activities are delivered in both simulated and controlled real-life scenarios, and include:
- Extinguishing a Class B fire using a fire extinguisher
- Using a fire blanket and fire hose reel
- Participating in a live evacuation and preparing a post-evacuation report
- Leading an evolving emergency scenario to practise leadership and decision-making under pressure
This course is aligned with workplace health and safety legislation and Australian Standard AS 3745-2010, equipping participants with the essential capabilities to support compliance and strengthen workplace emergency preparedness.
This course is ideal for workplaces looking to train personnel across multiple emergency response roles—whether for fire extinguisher use, warden responsibilities, or senior leadership during an evacuation.

- Workers nominated as Fire Wardens or Chief/Deputy Chief Wardens

Training is delivered face-to-face by experienced, qualified trainers. Delivery options include:
- Public Courses – Held at our training facilities in Brisbane and Townsville. These follow a structured format, with Fire Warden and Chief Warden training delivered in the morning, followed by Fire Extinguisher training in the afternoon.
- Client-Only Courses – Delivered onsite at your workplace (group bookings). These are fully flexible, allowing you to customise the delivery to suit your team. For example, you may run Fire Extinguisher training for 14 participants, with 5 of those continuing for Fire Warden training, and 2 staying on to complete Chief Warden training.
We offer flexible scheduling and can tailor delivery to suit your needs—please contact our team to discuss.
There are no pre-course or post-course requirements. All assessment activities are completed during the training session.
Upon successful completion, participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for one or more of the following units of competency, depending on the components they complete:
- CPPFES2005 – Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment
- PUAFER005 – Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
- PUAFER006 – Lead an emergency control organisation
Certificate delivery:
- Courses at our facilities: Certificates are issued on the day, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers (if applicable) the following business day.
- Courses at client sites: Certificates are issued within 7 business days, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, participants must be physically capable of completing practical activities, including:
- Lifting and operating a fire extinguisher (up to 5kg)
- Participating in a live evacuation exercise

Frequently Asked Questions
- Under the Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008 (Qld), workplaces must have an emergency evacuation plan and appoint responsible people to coordinate evacuations. In most emergency structures, this includes a Chief Warden to take overall control during an emergency.
- Fire Wardens are responsible for coordinating evacuations within their designated area (such as a floor or zone), assisting occupants, and reporting to the Chief Warden.
- The Chief Warden leads the overall emergency response, coordinates the actions of all wardens, communicates with emergency services, and ensures the site is safely evacuated.
The Fire Combo course is designed to be flexible. Participants can complete all three components—Fire Extinguisher, Fire Warden, and Chief Warden training—or attend only the sessions relevant to their role.
For example, one group may complete Fire Extinguisher training, with a smaller group completing Fire Warden, and a final few doing Chief Warden.
The full course is delivered in one day, typically over 8 hours, depending on group size and delivery format. It includes both theory and practical activities for all three components.
Public courses run all sessions on the same day. For client-only courses, we can tailor the schedule to suit your team’s needs and roles.
Each participant will receive one certificate listing the units of competency they have completed.
Those who complete all components of the Fire Combo course will receive a Statement of Attainment covering four nationally recognised units.
Participants who complete only one or two components will be issued a certificate listing the relevant units completed.
