This course equips your team with the knowledge and hands-on skills to safely assess and respond to small workplace emergencies—before they escalate. Participants will learn to use fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, and fire blankets, and will extinguish a live fire in a controlled environment.

Delivered through both theory and practical training, this course focuses on emergency preparedness, effective response, and post-incident procedures. It also covers relevant legislation and the correct use of firefighting equipment.

Completing this training satisfies the legal requirement to provide first attack firefighting training at least every two years.

Nationally recognised units of competency:

  • CPPFES2005 – Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment
  • PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility

Course Details

Participants will gain the practical skills and confidence to respond to small workplace emergencies and safely use fire extinguishers and related firefighting equipment (including fire hose reels and fire blankets).

The course covers:

  • Identifying and responding to small emergencies such as fires or spills
  • Following workplace emergency procedures and evacuation plans
  • Safely selecting and using firefighting equipment
  • Post-incident actions including equipment reconditioning and reporting

Hands-on training includes the practical use of various extinguishers, hose reels, and fire blankets to control a live fire scenario.

This course is designed for any workplace personnel who may be required to respond to small-scale emergencies. Ideal for staff in offices, warehouses, construction sites, healthcare facilities and other environments with potential fire risks.

Training is delivered face-to-face by experienced, qualified trainers. Delivery options include:

  • Public Courses – Held at our training facilities in Brisbane and Townsville.
  • Client-Only Courses – Delivered onsite at your workplace (group bookings)

We offer flexible scheduling and can tailor delivery to suit your needs—please contact our team to discuss.

There are no pre-course or post-course requirements. All assessment activities are completed during the session.

Upon successful completion, participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

  • CPPFES2005 – Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment
  • PUAFER008 – Confine small emergencies in a facility

Certificate delivery:

  • Courses at our facilities: Certificates are issued on the day, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers (if applicable) the following business day.
  • Courses at client sites: Certificates are issued within 7 business days, with digital copies emailed to participants and employers.

There are no formal entry requirements; however, participants must be physically capable of lifting and operating a fire extinguisher (up to 5kg) as part of the practical assessment.
